WATERCOLOR

  • Watercolor is a water-soluble and transparent paint based on different pigments.
  • The mix of colors is easily even.The intensity of its colors it will depend of the amount of water being mixed with the paint.
  • White watercolor paint doesn't exist, the underlying paper works as the white you need. All other colors are being built on top of this “white”. If you need to show some white on your artwork, you'll have to cover that area to avoid painting it.
  • Colors get lighter once are dry.
  • This medium is very versatile and able to capture different moods and techniques.

GRAPHITE

  • Graphite medium is universal.
  • It is easy to erase and most of professionals use them to sketch out the outlines, figures and any object of an illustration before coloring or painting it.
  • Artwork rendered in graphite could be full of expression. It is the most common medium and brings much satisfaction to the artist because of its versatility.
  • Easy to work with tonal values, shadows and stroke effects.
  • Graphite could be blended into one another.
  • It is cheap and the best way to start as an artist.

COLOR PENCIL

  • Color pencils are great to show details with precision. It is the perfect medium to build color, shades and textures.
  • Many artists like to combine this medium with a watercolor base layer before they start applying color pencils.
  • The covering capacity of the colors is much less in comparison to other mediums. However, color pencils are more accessible than other mediums and ready to use.
  • The intensity and richness of the colors, depends on the pressure the artist applies as well as the color itself.
  • Large drawings rendered with this medium are not very common since it is not easy and it is time consuming. Working with color pencils most of the times means to work in small-scale artwork.

ACRYLICS

  • Acrylic paint is diluted with water and easy to work with. However,once it is dry, it is insoluble in water. It forms a film that resembles plastic.
  • Many finishes are available in stores: matte, glossy, iridescent, transparent, textured, etc.
  • Acrylic paint is the best to be used in airbrush technique.
  • Acrylics could be applied in a smooth and uniform layer and in a large area, or could be used to imitate the finish of oil painting.

PASTELS

  • There are 2 different varieties: Oil Pastel & Chalk Pastel.
  • They can be superimposed onto any type of surface painted with watercolor , gouache or acrylic.
  • The mix of colors is easily even. The intensity of its colors is greater than color pencils since since the lead is softer.
  • The colors are being built on layers.
  • This medium is very versatile and able to capture different moods and techniques.

OIL
